Survey begins to expand internet access, broadband speed across Fisher county
Your input needed to develop technology action plan
Fisher County, TX. (April 14, 2021) – The Fisher County Broadband Committee launched work to develop a county-specific Technology Action Plan. The committee, which is partnering with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas) to make the project possible, is made up of local stakeholders who are focused on finding solutions for improving internet connectivity countywide.
“The interconnectivity the internet provides is undeniable, especially in rural America. This pandemic has showcased a vulnerability in our communities, and it is essential that we not only plan for today, but for the future.” said Ken Holt, Fisher County Judge. “I am pleased to join with Connected Nation to discover where Fisher County stands in broadband and work with them for the future of all residents.”
Fisher County is one of many communities selected as part of a statewide effort led by Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas) and funded by the Texas Rural Funders—at no cost to the county. As part of this effort, the committee is asking every individual, business, and community organization to take 10 minutes and fill out this short survey: https://www.myconnectedcommunity.org/fisher-county/
“The way our children learn is ever evolving and the internet plays a critical role in the development of education. This is especially true over the past year, where children had to adjust to online learning as the only method.” said Jason Carter, Roby CISD Superintendent of Schools. “Unfortunately, inadequate access to broadband causes barriers to our children's learning. I am looking forward to working with our community to expand broadband in Fisher County as broadband access is critical for our students to stay connected and continue to learn.”
The Technology Action Plan, which will be developed by leveraging Connected Nation’s Connected Community Engagement Program, will be shaped by the information provided by local stakeholders. The Connected Program has been used in over 600 communities across the country to develop county or regional-specific Technology Action Plans that have both short term and long-term broadband solutions.
