FAQ: What to know about this world record attempt

Connected Nation will attempt to set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the “longest internet literacy livestream,” broadcasting live from Louisville, Ky., for 25 consecutive hours.

This is an official attempt. As such, the Guinness World Records organization has given Connected Nation a very clear set of guidelines that must be followed to become a world record holder.

For the purpose of this record and per the official guidelines, "an internet literacy live stream is where participants learn how to interact properly with various digital devices, learn skills in AI, internet safety, and cybersecurity along with other internet related topics."

The event will train learners live via streaming platforms, create on-demand resources for continued use, and advance global digital empowerment for communities most impacted by the Digital Divide.

It will be broadcast live and around the globe from Hatfield Media's studios located in Louisville, Ky.

Connected Nation is national nonprofit that works to expand access, adoption, and use of broadband (high-speed internet) and its related technologies to all people. The nonprofit is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026.

So, it's very symbolic, i.e. 25 hours for 25 years of service.

Connected Nation must follow the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records' team to set this world record. We need your help to make this possible especially for #1!

These guidelines include but are not limited to:

  1. There must be at least 50 people actively watching the live stream. If this number drops for longer than 5 minutes, the record attempt will be considered null and void.

  2. There can be no significant pauses in the live feed, which means it cannot drop for longer than 1 minute.

  3. The event can take place in multiple venues as long as the live stream is not interrupted.

  4. The live stream is permitted to cut to video, but it must not exceed 10% of the total run time of the event.

  5. The entire event must be in video format and viewable to the public online.

  6. The event must have a programmed schedule.

  7. Two specialists who are independent witnesses must be present at all times throughout the attempt. They must attest to the accuracy of the content covered and that the event has followed the guidelines.

  8. Connected Nation must provide a cover letter, a logbook of the event, website links, screen shots, media articles, proof of witnesses' expertise, and two witness statements tothe Guinness World Records organization as proof of setting the world record.
