Huron County launches new effort to expand internet access, improve speeds
Your input needed to develop Technology Action Plan for county
Huron County, Mich. (December 16, 2020) – The Huron County Economic Development Corporation(EDC) and the recently formed Huron County Broadband Committee just launched a new initiative to help expand and improve high-speed internet access for all county residents, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and community organizations.
“The Huron County EDC is constantly working on ways to improve communities and business climate in the county,” said Carl Osentoski, Executive Director of the Huron County Economic Development Corporation. “Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we have seen areas that could be improved on in our broadband internet in the county. Everyone is impacted by this, education, agriculture, small businesses, the list goes on.”
The Huron County EDC and Huron County Broadband Committee are working in partnership with Connected Nation Michigan (CN Michigan), the statewide program of the national nonprofit Connected Nation (CN). The nonprofit has a mission to improve lives by identifying innovative solutions for expanding access, adoption, and use of broadband and its related technologies to all people. The Huron County EDC and Broadband Committee are leveraging CN’s Connected Community Engagement Program to develop a Technology Action Plan.
As part of this effort, and to ensure a plan that accurately reflects the need across the area, the EDC is asking every individual, business, and community organization in the county to take 10 minutes and fill out this short survey: https://www.myconnectedcommunity.org/huron-county-1/
“As time goes on there will be a growing need for even more communication technology, so please take a few minutes out of your day to fill out the survey provided by Connected Nation Michigan,” said Osentoski. “The surveys will help us identify areas of the county that might need improvement especially in the more rural areas of Huron County.”
The Connected program has developed Technology Action Plans for more than 350 communities, counties, and regions across the country. Each one is tailored to an area’s specific opportunities and challenges. For more details, head to https://connectednation.org/connect-my-community/.
