Learning, laptops, and lifelong skills: How San Antonio learners are leveling up with AI-powered Digital Works

San Antonio, Texas (November 6, 2025) — During Digital Inclusion Week 2025, Connected Nation (CN) set out to help people across the country gain the digital skills they need to connect, work, and thrive. More than 2,200 individuals joined our training events that week, and one of the most inspiring took place right in the heart of San Antonio.

At the San Antonio Hope Center, we brought our Digital Works program to the community for two full days of hands-on learning. Adults eager to sharpen their digital skills and explore new career opportunities joined the training, held October 7 and 8. The event brought together 35 participants for an interactive experience that blended technology, mentorship, and creativity.

From digital basics to generative AI

Since 2013, our Digital Works program has helped learners build marketable digital skills, navigate the online job market, and prepare new employment opportunities and career paths. The program does more than teach computer skills; it helps people build confidence in using technology to improve their lives. Participants learn everything from online communication to résumé writing, job searching, and professional growth strategies.

In San Antonio, we took things a step further with new AI-powered learning activities. Learners explored how generative AI tools like ChatGPT can help transform their job search. They practiced writing stronger résumés, identifying transferable skills, and using AI prompts to imagine new career paths.

“AI is pretty much the way technology is going,” said one participant. “I truly appreciate the walk-through. Thank you to our class instructor, Kiersten Rucker! You were such a blast, and I loved your positive and outgoing energy from the beginning all the way to the end.”

A celebration of empowerment

At the close of the second day, 35 graduates proudly received their certificates of completion, along with a brand-new laptop provided by Compudopt, a gift that ensures the learning continues long after class ends.

“In today’s job market, digital is the way that it’s going,” shared another participant. “This class was a self-investment in finding a successful career. Thank you to Compudopt for the new computer. In this economy, I know it will come in very handy.”

Collaboration in action

This event came to life through the support of dedicated local and national partners who share our commitment to digital empowerment. SA Digital Connects played a key role in bringing everyone together and generously provided lunch for participants each day. The curriculum also included computer basics and internet safety training powered by AT&T and the Public Library Association, expanding the learning experience to cover essential foundational skills alongside AI-powered career tools.

We are especially grateful to Janiece Cantu, Director of Programs at SA Hope Center; Ruby Ann Sanchez, Facilitator for the Positive Parenting & Journey to Success Programs at SA Hope Center; Julissa Vasquez, Program Manager at Compudopt; Rhia Pape, Executive Director of SA Digital Connects; and our own Connected Nation team members for helping make this effort such a success.

Together, we created a welcoming environment where learners could gain digital confidence and experience the power of community connection.

Why it matters

Digital skills are no longer optional; they are essential. And as AI continues to shape the future of work, programs like AI-powered Digital Works ensure that no one is left behind. For the 35 new graduates in San Antonio, Digital Inclusion Week was more than just an event. It was a reminder that with the right tools, support, and mindset, anyone can learn, adapt, and take the next step toward opportunity.
