Have training, will travel
Highlands Ranch, Colo. (July 15, 2025) - Connected Nation (CN) Digital Literacy & Learning Facilitator Marco Mata recently took the national nonprofit’s digital literacy workshops on the road.
He travelled to Highlands Ranch, Colo., on June 26 to conduct several bi-lingual classes at Highlands Ranch Senior Center.
The Senior Center provides fitness classes, enrichment programs, health screenings, social events, and so much more for residents ages 55 and older. It also offers educational programs, which is why facility leaders invited CN to conduct its Digital Skills Training workshops.
These training sessions were offered at no cost to learners or the organization as part of CN’s work to close the Digital Divide. They were a hit.
When he closed up shop for the day, Mata had trained 39 participants. That included Anece (pictured below, far left), a local senior citizen who said she learned some new ways to use her cell phone’s texting feature, among other things.
“My favorite part of the workshop was the open lab session, where I received personalized, one-on-one assistance on filling out a PDF form via email,” Anece said. “I’d love to see more sessions like this, covering a variety of topics. Websites are helpful resources, but they can still be difficult to navigate, especially for individuals over the age of 70. Overall, I was grateful for the support and excited about the opportunity to continue to learn more about technology.”
