Refugio County group needs your input on plan to improve internet access, speeds for the entire county

Refugio County, Texas (January 26, 2021) – The Refugio County Broadband Committee recently started its work to develop a county-specific Technology Action Plan. The committee is partnering with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas) to make the project possible and is looking at ways to improve high-speed internet access, adoption, and use across the county.

“This Technology Action Plan will provide immediate and long-term steps Refugio County can take to expand and improve its internet access for residents, businesses, schools, and community and government organizations,” said Refugio County Judge Robert Blaschke. “We are asking everyone to take part so we can more effectively identify pain points as well as opportunities for improving internet.”

Refugio County is among 27 communities that are being selected to take part in a statewide effort led by CN Texas and funded by the Texas Rural Funders—at no cost to the county itself.    As part of this effort, the Committee is asking every individual, business, and community organization to take 10 minutes and fill out this short survey:   www.myconnectedcommunity.org/refugio-county/

“We have all been a witness to how critical having affordable and reliable internet truly is during the pandemic, so this is an opportunity for us to ensure that every child, family, senior citizen, veteran, and others across Refugio County have access to the resources they need, no matter what the circumstances,” said Ann Fierova, Chair, Refugio County Community Development Board. “Take part and make sure that your area is not overlooked. We can’t miss this chance to chart a path forward for every home and business in our area.”

The Technology Action Plan, which will be developed by leveraging Connected Nation’s Connected Community Engagement Program, will be shaped by the information provided by local stakeholders. The Connected Program has been used in nearly 400 communities across the country to develop county or regional-specific Technology Action Plans that have both short term and long-term broadband solutions.
