CN Texas Looking to Identify 23 Communities for Technology Action Plans

Austin, TX (October 29, 2019) - Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas), a subsidiary of the national nonprofit Connected Nation, is working to expand broadband (high-speed internet) access, adoption, and use across Texas.

CN Texas’ State Program Director, Jennifer Harris, recently spoke with RFD-TV, a broadcast group that focuses on rural affairs issues across the country, about the impact the Digital Divide is having in the Lone Star State.

“We are looking at more than a million (1.45 million) Texans who do not have access to high-speed internet,” said Harris. “That’s about one in every three rural Texans.”

Connected Nation has worked in Texas since 2009 but recently relaunched the statewide effort thanks to funding from the Texas Rural Funders Collaborative. As part of that work, the nonprofit is trying to identify 23 communities that are looking to develop a plan of action to improve broadband (high-speed internet) access for businesses and residents.

“My priorities are working with these 23 communities across the state of Texas to help them develop a Technology Action Plan, to help them get connected to broadband,” said Harris. “We know how important broadband is for every sector whether it comes to small businesses or healthcare or education. It’s even shown in some studies that farmers’ revenue can increase by six percent if they’re connected appropriately to broadband.”

Jennifer Harris also shares how CN Texas is identifying those communities and what’s next for the work now being done statewide. Watch the full video below for more:
