Serving the Last Mile: Officials in Two Ohio Counties Looking for Broadband Vendors

Vinton and Meigs Counties, OH (December 20, 2019) – Local leaders in two Ohio counties are building on work begun nearly three years ago to connect underserved and poorly served families, businesses, and communities. They are now looking for vendors to construct telecommunications towers across the region.

Vinton and Meigs Counties sit in the southeast region of the Buckeye State—a rural area populated by a few small towns such as Jackson (population 1,653) in Vinton and Pomeroy (pop. 1,790) in Meigs.

Leaders and local stakeholders in the two counties came together in 2017 to develop a Technology Action Plan for the area. They worked with Connected Nation’s Connected Community Engagement Program to develop steps for improving broadband (high-speed internet) access, adoption, and use for families and businesses in the area.

Now, the two counties are looking for qualified vendors to support them with a project to expand broadband.  Officials have issued a Request for Qualifications for building communications towers and antenna systems in the region.
