Kaufman County to launch countywide broadband engagement April 6

Residents, businesses, health care organizations, schools, and others in community are asked to share details about their internet access, cost, and use

Kaufman County, Texas (March 30, 2022) – The Kaufman County Broadband Committee, in partnership with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas), invites local stakeholders, community residents, and media to attend a special kickoff event on Wednesday, April 6, at 3 p.m. to discuss expanding and improving internet access, adoption, and use throughout the community. Attendees will learn more about broadband access in Kaufman County and how their feedback is crucial to improving the local broadband landscape. It will conclude with a Q&A session.

The kickoff meeting will be held at the Kaufman Civic Center, located at 607 E. Fair St. in Kaufman, Texas.

Survey data collected throughout the engagement will be used to create a Technology Action Plan that will provide solutions for bridging the connectivity, affordability, and digital literacy gaps in the community. The plan will be developed by leveraging Connected Nation’s Connected Community Engagement Program and will be shaped by the information provided by local stakeholders.

“Rural Texans need better broadband,” said Susan Huffman, resident of Cottonwood. “My family lives on a county road in western Kaufman County. Even though we live less than an hour south of Dallas, our only internet access is via a cellular hot spot. I’ll do my part and take the CN Texas Broadband survey. Please join me. Together, we’ll make a bigger impact to improve the broadband desert in our community.”

Kaufman County joins an ever-growing list of communities to partner with CN Texas across the Lone Star State. CN Texas has worked with more than 50 communities to help build local broadband teams, map broadband assets, and create community action plans. The Kaufman County engagement is generously funded by The Meadows Foundation, headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The Meadows Foundation is “on a mission to improve the quality and circumstances of life for the people of Texas now and in the future.”
