Castro County releases results of broadband survey — encourages access for agriculture community among others

Castro County, Texas (February 24, 2023) – Earlier this year, Castro County community leaders partnered with Connected Nation Texas (CN Texas) to conduct a local broadband engagement. Today marks the release of the results of a comprehensive broadband survey and Technology Action Plan designed to identify ways to increase high-speed internet access and usage in the county.

Based on the results of this survey, recommendations include:

  1. Improving broadband access, adoption, and use through education and local coalition building.
  2. Building and maintaining relationships with internet service providers to improve internet access and speeds.
  3. Ensuring that the Castro County agriculture community has access to high-speed technology and technology resources to improve efficiency and profitability.

“Having a reliable internet connection is critical to ensuring all residents in Castro County can participate in the digital world,” said Molly Weiner, Director of Local and Regional Planning for CN Texas. “When we met with leaders from across the county, we heard of the need for improved connectivity to support agriculture, public safety, and education. These recommendations will help the county address areas of need in terms of connectivity.”

The full plan, including details on additional recommendations, can be found here: https://connectednation.org/castro-county-texas/.

The broadband engagement survey is part of the Connected Community Engagement Program, administered through CN Texas. The program empowers local leaders and communities through collaborative, data-driven technology planning. To date, the Connected Engagement Program has helped more than 650 communities across the country build comprehensive Technology Action Plans.
