The Trump Administration releases new rules on the BEAD program, this is what it means for states
Nashville, TN and Louisville, Ky. (June 17, 2025) - The Trump Administration, through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), recently released new rules and regulations that will govern the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program moving forward.
The BEAD program provides $42.45B to states to expand access to broadband (high-speed internet) across their borders. It was passed as part of the 2021 infrastructure act, and for the last three years, State Broadband Offices have worked on their proposals for deploying critical broadband infrastructure.
The BEAD Restructuring Policy Notice was released just ten days ago on Friday, June 6 and created some significant changes for states. Those changes include rescinding all final state proposals, updating which technologies must be considered in state plans, and removing some of the workforce and climate change red tape.
Connected Nation Chairman & CEO Tom Ferree recently talked with RFD-TV about what the new rules and regulations mean for the deployment and expansion of high-speed internet. Get a full round up in just 4 minutes in the video below.
