Connected Nation taps Digital Education Grant to provide critical digital and AI career-ready skills for Kentucky students

Louisville, Ky. (December 9, 2025) – Hundreds of people filled the Americana World Community Center in Louisville on Saturday, December 6 for two special events – a community resource fair and a ceremony honoring more than two dozen area middle and high school students.

The resource fair featured nonprofits and other community organizations from across Louisville. They offered everything from assistance navigating local government services to educational opportunities with area colleges and universities.

Connected Nation (CN), Spectrum, and city council officials were on hand to take part in a celebration during the fair honoring students from the Adelante Hispanic Achievers

Celebrating the students' achievment

Thirty-five middle and high school students received certificates for completing  a hands-on workshop focused on developing networking abilities, digital skills, and AI literacy needed for entering the modern workforce.

Kiersten Rucker, a Digital Inclusion Specialist, CN, led the session and guided the students through practical ways to build a strong foundation of digital and career-ready skills. During the workshop, students explored how digital tools can broaden opportunities, build confidence, and expand their understanding of future career (and college) pathways.

The class, which took place in Louisville on Saturday, October 11, during National Digital Inclusion Week, was made possible through a Spectrum Digital Education Grant.

“We are grateful to Spectrum for making this possible,” said Tom Ferree, Chairman & CEO, CN. “These workshops made it possible for young people in our community to receive career readiness training that will truly prepare them for entering the modern workforce. A workforce that is, right now, being reshaped by AI. Spectrum is truly helping us prepare our youth for the future of work.”

Spectrum provided a $15,000 grant to support the workshop. Louisville Metro Councilwoman Betsy Ruhe (Dist. 21) and Ellen Call, SVP of Government Affairs for Spectrum joined Ferree for the check presentation.
