Pilot Program Launched in Fort Knox Area Provides Digital Job Training for Military Spouses and Veterans

For Immediate Release
August 1, 2018

Elizabethtown, Ky. (August 1, 2018) – Connected Nation is launching its Digital Works℠ (DW) program in the Fort Knox area with a focus on helping military spouses and veterans. This one-of-a-kind job-creation program was developed specifically to meet the growing demand for online and digitally trained workers.

More than 850 graduates have gone through the program in both rural and urban settings. It’s successful because it goes beyond training and job placement to long-term career guidance and mentorship while addressing a void in today’s workforce — the need for skilled workers to fill remote and telework positions.

“What makes this program perfect for thousands of military families is that these jobs can move as they do,” said Tom Ferree, Chairman & CEO, Connected Nation. “We understand that military spouses are also serving our country. Every day they are making a sacrifice so their loved ones can fulfill his or her duty. The Digital Works℠ program means military spouses no longer have to find a new job every time there is a new base assignment. They can also choose to pick up more work when their loved one is deployed or balance a more flexible work schedule — helping ease the burden on these families.”

Two four-week courses — one for military spouses, the other for veterans — are being offered at no charge to the participants thanks to the support of the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs (KCMA), the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA), AT&T, and the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College (ECTC).

The course for military spouses begins Monday, Aug. 13, at ECTC, located at 600 College Street Road, RPC Building, Room 201, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The second course for veterans will take place at the same location beginning Monday, Sept. 17.

“Addressing the unique employment needs of veterans and military spouses is key to improving the quality of life for service members, veterans, and their families,” said M. Blaine Hedges, Col. (Ret), USA, and Executive Director of the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs. “Through the Digital Works℠ program, we are partnering with our military community to create enduring economic opportunity not only for their individual households, but also for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

Digital Works℠ represents more than 70 regional, national, and global employers with incredible demand for remote workers. The program delivers customized training so that students learn the in-demand skills that companies are searching for in today’s modern workforce. The program’s staff also helps with job placement and provides support and ongoing training for dealing with the unique challenges and opportunities of digital jobs and telework.

“AT&T is proud to support this initiative and our country’s military families, particularly here in the Ft. Knox community,” said Hood Harris, President of AT&T Kentucky. “Our organization is committed to helping create a capable and diverse pipeline of employees to fuel 21st century jobs, and we know that spouses and veterans make great employees. Programs like Digital Works℠ help in our efforts to advance education, strengthen communities, and improve lives.”

“We are proud to serve our military families, and are excited about the opportunity to partner with Connected Nation to bring this program to our region,” said Dr. Juston Pate, President and CEO of Elizabethtown Community & Technical College.
