November 16 - 18 workshop to empower local teens to lead the way in digital and physical safety

‘Keeping Ourselves and Our Communities Safe’ will be held at Mississippi Valley University

Itta Bena, Mississippi (November 14, 2023) – Connected Nation, in collaboration with Teaching through Technologies (T3) Alliance and Mississippi Valley State University’s Upward Bound Program, is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking, three-day, hands-on workshop taking place from November 16 to 18 at Mississippi Valley State University.

The event, “Keeping Ourselves and Our Communities Safe,” has a dual focus: equipping teens with essential wellness, digital and physical safety skills and empowering them to educate their communities. This pilot event will serve as a model for future initiatives in 2024 across the United States, with student leaders taking on key roles in training the next generation of instructors.

Connected Nation's innovative program, Teens Teach Tech, powered by AT&T offers financial incentives, mentorship, training materials, volunteer opportunities and support services for teens to help train adults. Its objective is to boost confidence, impacting lives through technology, one community at a time. Students and community leaders in Itta Bena will gain access to cybersecurity training through the Teens Tech Tech program and the Upward Bound Program.

Workshop highlights:

  • Day 1 (Thursday, November 16): Physical Safety Training, Wellness, and Trauma Recovery
  • Day 2 (Friday, November 17): Digital and Physical Safety
  • Day 3 (Saturday, November 18): Cybersecurity and Film Festival

The event aims to engage 50 to 100 students and 100 community members in Itta Bena, Mississippi, creating a culture of safety and technological empowerment. The national nonprofit Connected Nation and global educators network T3 Alliance, along with their partners, are dedicated to creating a brighter future for these communities by instilling confidence in students and community members through a focus on wellness, physical safety, and digital security.
