Louisville's Digital Divide Is About More Than Internet Access - Here's Why

Louisville, KY. - Imagine trying to file your taxes on a smart phone. Or applying for a job on the same small screen. Or fighting off middle schoolers who are playing computer games at the library so you can pay your energy bill.

Mika McClaine, senior case manager for the Louisville Metro Housing Authority, said these are the problems facing many Louisvillians right now — and it all stems from a lack of access to and understanding of the internet. Situations such as this make the day longer and harder than for someone who has internet in their home.

"Most of the time, people want to make their lives easier," she explained. "They just want to be like everyone else."
