Free Class Boosts Business in Northern Michigan

Marketing businesses and economic development agencies are teaming up for a fourth year in Roscommon County, Michigan, to help small businesses strengthen their online marketing skills. The Boost Your Business seminars provide free, hands-on instruction using Facebook and website marketing, giving small and home-based businesses and non-profits the opportunity to hone social media skills and use the latest online marketing tools to get real results.Boost Your Business PIC

“With a number of Roscommon County residents who make crafts, sell goods, or offer services from their home, many are still unaware of how to take advantage of the Internet to market their product or services,” said Adele Woskobojnik, owner of Marketing Sense Consulting and one of the key collaborators behind the class. “The first seminar will help these entrepreneurs decide if social media is enough for them to reach their goals, or if should they have more of a web presence.”

With Facebook recently adding a mercantile element to the vastly popular social site, over 1 billion people can now buy or sell on Facebook. While offering a huge capability to small businesses, certain techniques are required to reach potential customers and break through the noise generated by so many buyers and sellers competing for attention.

For businesses that are new to the online arena, Boost Your Business is the perfect place to start. The first class, set for February 9 at the St. Helen Senior Center in St. Helen, MI, will show entrepreneurs, businesses, and non-profits in Roscommon County how to set up a business Facebook page to market or sell a product or service. Attendees will also receive instruction from Gaia Technologies, local IT hardware and software service experts, on website best practices. Whether making a website for the first time, resurrecting a long-dormant page, or learning how to use an active page to make more impressions, participants at any stage of online marketing can benefit from the class. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops to follow along and work on their pages during the class.

"Roscommon County is broadband certified, making it the ideal area to have a home-based or telecommuting business. There are also many independently-owned business, non-profit, and tourism related services that would benefit from using the Internet, especially during the colder seasons of the year," said Rosalie Myers, Roscommon County Economic Development coordinator and another key collaborator behind Boost Your Business.

Myers and Woskobojnik with Brenda Bachelder of Michigan Works! are planning three or four more classes throughout the year, with dates, times, and locations to be announced. To reserve your seat for this free class, email myers@roscommoncounty.net or call (989) 275-5268.
