Digital Literacy Critical for Aging Population

(May 10, 2011) - Getting older American adults online is an important policy priority that should be addressed through a collaboration among state, local, national, non-profit and business entities, a panel of telecommunication policy experts said at a conference Tuesday.

Low broadband adoption rates among senior citizens could have an adverse effect on the economy if older Americans are resistant to using digital technologies that could speed delivery of health care and government services. “It’s an issue that doesn’t receive as much attention as it should,” said Thomas Koutsky , Chief Policy Counsel of Connected Nation, a non-profit that helped develop the NTIA’s national broadband map...
