Connected Nation announces new partnership to protect children online, teach empathy during World Kindness Week
Bowling Green, Ky. (November 12, 2021) – As we celebrate World Kindness Week (Nov. 8-14), Connected Nation is proud to announce its partnership with Empatico to develop content to help children worldwide safely navigate the internet.
“It is fitting that, as we celebrate 20 years of service within the broadband space, we are also taking action through this partnership with Empatico to ensure children are protected as they go online in an ever-increasingly digital world,” said Heather Gate, Vice President, Digital Inclusion, Connected Nation. “As part of our work to bridge the Digital Divide and fill the homework gap for children that come from vulnerable communities, we have a clear responsibility to ensure that students can use the internet safely, responsibly, and as good digital citizens. What better way to empower the young digital citizens world over than to empower them with a commitment to kindness?”
Empatico’s mission includes using technology in classrooms to connect students so they can see other communities, share their lives, and learn about others who are different from themselves. In celebration of 5 Days of Kindness, Empatico is sharing special ways to infuse more kindness in the classroom Click here to learn more and access the latest content and activities.
“Our partnership with Connected Nation is important because it provides us the opportunity to address issues that are critical to keeping children safe as they gain access to and use the appropriate resources available to them through the internet,” said Naomi Giges Downey, Empatico's Managing Director. “We are committed to creating a movement to spark kindness and empathy around the world.”
Connected Nation has a long history of working to ensure that children have access to broadband, internet-enabled devices, and other technological resources needed to participate in digital learning while also acquiring the essential skills to navigate a digital world. Whether it is in the classroom or at home, digital empowerment is central to how kids learn today.
As a partner, Connected Nation contributed content on combating cyberbullying with kindness with a lesson plan and activity called My “Kind” of Internet. Additionally, the featured lesson plan for the third day of the 5 Days of Kindness was contributed by Connected Nation on Kind vs Unkind Words.
