TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Local leaders met at the state capitol today to improve broadband access across the state.
A map was unveiled for the first time on Friday that illustrates broadband availability across the state. This is something local leaders said they have tried to develop for over 20 years.
They were given a presentation by Connected Nation, a non-profit that works to bring broadband access to underserved areas.
"When you go out to the more rural areas, say like Auburn or Tecumseh, or some adjacent to the metropolitan areas, they're still considered a little bit more rural and it may be more cost prohibitive to deploy broadband service to those areas," said Christine Aarnes, Chief of Telecommunications & SSP Affairs at the Kansas Corporation Commission.
