Validating Texas Broadband Service

Contributor: Dwayne Goodman

We hope you enjoyed our blog yesterday about the different broadband delivery methods.  If you haven't checked it out, do so now!  Today, we're looking at how our team goes about validating the different broadband methods to provide more accurate, useful mapping of broadband availability.

Validation:

Residents typically come away with a better understanding of the insider terms, like “fixed wireless,” after they’ve been exposed to our engineering work and validation efforts across Texas.

src=http://cn.hcents.com/sites/default/files/blogs/tx_tower.jpgOur team of engineers verifies each of these platforms above by going out into the field with tools, test equipment and data.  We spend countless hours determining how accurately each platform is represented in Texas.  This process is known as “provider validation.”

To see an example of a typical Connected Nation field validation performed by ETS member Dwayne Goodman in a community just south of Dallas, Texas, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNMEQKHbDls.

Dwayne Goodman serves as a Wireless Engineer for Connected Nation’s Engineering & Technical Services Division.  He works with each of the state's broadband providers to gather the vital data needed to create detailed maps of broadband coverage.  He also responds to broadband inquiries posted by residents of Texas at the Connected Texas website (http://www.connectedtx.org/broadband-inquiry).

Connected Texas is an independent, public & private initiative working to ensure that all can experience the benefits of broadband. Technology, especially widespread access, use and adoption of broadband, improves all areas of life. Connected Texas invites you to join us in changing communities and lives across Texas.

We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about broadband delivery methods and our validation process.  Our efforts are making a great impact and helping us continue to level the digital playing field as we work to improve broadband adoption and education.
