Happy World Emoji Day!

Bowling Green, Ky. (July 17, 2024) - It’s World Emoji Day, and us here at Connected Nation (CN) are always excited to talk about the many ways that broadband makes it possible for us to communicate!

July 17 πŸ“† was named World Emoji Day ten years ago today; the date was chosen to match the date on the Apple iPhone calendar icon. Although the earliest set of emojis date back to the late 1980s in an early model of a Japanese πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), their use has grown and flourished over the subsequent years. Now, single images can replace words, sentences, or even whole concepts! 🀯

Admittedly, emojis can be considered cute, silly, or frivolous. 😜

On the other hand, in many ways they represent the way the internet has changed our ability to communicate πŸ—£οΈ with each other. Even two people πŸ‘©πŸ½‍🀝‍πŸ‘¨πŸΎ who don’t speak the same language can understand what a ❀️ means!

Here at CN, we believe that expanding broadband access can help bring people closer together, no matter where they live. 🌎 After all, we’ve been saying for years that Everyone Belongs in a Connected Nation. Broadband makes it possible for people to share ideas and meet people πŸ‘‹πŸΌ whose lives may be completely different from theirs. This can lead to dialog, and dialog can lead to understanding our world in a whole new way. That’s why we work so hard to close the Digital Divide for all Americans.
