Connected Nation congratulates Anna Gomez on her Senate confirmation as FCC Commissioner

Washington, DC (September 8, 2023) – Tom Ferree, Chairman & CEO of Connected Nation, issued the following statement congratulating Anna Gomez on her confirmation by the United States Senate to serve as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

“On behalf of the entire Connected Nation team, I offer our sincere congratulations to Anna Gomez on her confirmation by the U.S. Senate to serve as the FCC’s fifth commissioner.  Ms. Gomez has a long history of working in the trenches to close the Digital Divide, including having served as Deputy Administrator of NTIA, and that experience will serve her well as commissioner.  Her leadership, alongside that of the other four FCC commissioners, is needed now more than ever as the country embarks on its ambitious journey to deliver high quality, affordable Internet access to every home and business. The Commission must continue to lead the topics of universal service, mapping, spectrum, and space-based communications to ensure a brighter tomorrow for all Americans and to secure America's interests globally. Moreover, as new technologies continue to emerge that rely on high bandwidth, low latency connectivity, the FCC must be steadfast in ensuring that an Internet performance ‘divide’ doesn’t continue to grow between rural and urban areas.  This includes raising Internet bandwidth and latency standards and working to ensure that carrier-neutral interconnection points exist in hub communities outside of large metro areas. We look forward to working with Ms. Gomez on these and many other important issues in the years to come.”
