'Everybody needs broadband'

Bascom, OH. (September 3, 2019) - Bascom Communications’ General Manager understands how important high-speed internet (broadband) is to rural communities—that’s because he lives and works in one.

“You know, everybody needs broadband. It can be used for anything,” said Nate Brickner, who lives in Bascom.  “You know from watching television to running your tractor. It’s definitely needed all over the place and we’re trying to do our best to reinvest and get it to where it needs to be.”

Located about an hour south of Toledo and 25 minutes east of Findlay, the area Bascom Communications covers is mostly rural. In fact, the entire county has just a little more than 55,000 people

Brickner was recently interviewed by RFD-TV a broadcast group based in Nashville that’s focused specifically on issues impacting rural communities across the country. The station wanted to learn how the company has been able to bring big-city broadband access to rural Northwest Ohio.

“We’re a small, rural fiber provider and fixed wireless provider in rural Ohio. We were formed in 1906,” Brickner told RFD-TV anchor Janet Adkison. “Back in 2003, our board of directors decided to dip their toes in fiber and we were one of the earliest adopters for that. Since then, we’ve just expanded as we can…. and are now we’re offering gigabit speeds to homes and businesses.”
