Recapping the Women of Connected Nation
Bowling Green, KY. (March 26, 2019) – As Women’s History Month comes to a close, Connected Nation wants to recognize all of our hard-working female employees who have used their skills and experiences to fulfill our mission to expand broadband access, adoption, and use to all people.
From leadership roles to internship positions, our female staff has had a huge impact on our growth and connecting rural communities through technology.
Gina Lindsey, Connected Nation’s executive assistant to chairman and CEO Tom Ferree, keeps things running smoothly for not only leadership, but the nonprofit as a whole.
“Our work naturally scales from the boardrooms of today’s tech innovators to governors’ offices to single mothers and seniors adopting technology for the first time. It’s a cultural thing here, and Gina is a big part of how that standard of service and care is met. In this regard, she is a force multiplier for Connected Nation,” said Ferree.
Maddie Garnet is the human resources and special projects coordinator. She has been with the nonprofit for two-and-a-half years and, in that time, has grown to become an important part of the company. Maddie will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in management in May from Western Kentucky University.
A Path to Leadership
Bernie Bogle serves as the organization’s chief financial officer (CFO) and takes her time to connect with staff on the financial needs of individual projects—advising and helping them improve their fiscal responsibility.
“I report to the CEO and ensure he has a clear understanding of the financial status of CN. I work closely with our development team to identify and track opportunities and approve quotes for proposals, and I also work with human resources and IT to ensure necessary resources are in place to fulfill our mission,” said Bogle.
Ashley Hitt, director of GIS Services, works with the geographic information system. This system provides maps, analyses, and other data visualizations, allowing us to make analytics-driven decisions that impact policy and broadband expansion efforts.
Last but not least is Heather Gate, the director of Digital Inclusion. She is responsible for strategy development and implementation of programs that impact digital inclusion for all people in all places.
She recently stepped into a new role, using her experience in the space of digital inclusion to assist the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Gate serves on the FCC’s Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment (ACDDE), which was formed in late 2017.
