The city of Fairfield has been working since May with Connect Iowa on the Connected Community Engagement Program. This initiative assesses the local broadband landscape, identifies gaps, and establishes goals and objectives to increase broadband access, adoption, and use for families, organizations, and businesses throughout the community. The city of Fairfield was able to meet the benchmark requirements necessary to achieve the Certified Connected Community status.
Fairfield is the sixth community to become a Certified Connected Community in the state and 25th in the nation. More than 40 residents and community leaders attended the celebration event, held at the LISCO construction facility in Fairfield, where results of an assessment and details of the city's new technology action plan were released. Fairfield joins Webster City, West Des Moines, Indianola, Black Hawk County, and Creston in their Certified Connected status.
“Fairfield’s recognition as a Certified Connected Community in the state of Iowa is a testament to the many businesses and broadband providers that support broadband expansion in Fairfield and surrounding communities,” said Mayor Ed Mallow, a long-time champion for regional development.
“Fairfield is taking a major step forward in proclaiming its commitment to technology readiness and economic development,” said Connect Iowa State Program Manager Amy Kuhlers. “As one of only six Iowa communities to earn this certification, we’re excited to see Fairfield leading the way in advancing Iowa as a state that is embracing the present and future opportunities that high-speed Internet brings. Being a certified Connected community means Fairfield is ready to support its current residents and businesses by making sure there is access to all the business, educational, health, government, and other countless benefits that quality broadband allows.”
