Connected Texas Celebrates National Digital Literacy Day!

Today is National Digital Literacy Day and we’re excited to be joining others in celebrating the progress being made to foster broadband adoption and Internet training in communities across the United States, but more work needs to be done!

Millions of Americans are not online because they lack the skills and training. In fact, 15% of non-adopters say that they would subscribe to broadband if they had the skills to use the Internet.

Today is serving as the official kick-off for the “Everyone On” campaign. The campaign seeks to provide all Americans access to free digital literacy training, both online and in libraries. The campaign is being hosted by Connect 2 Compete and the National Ad Council.

“The Texas Every Community Online program focuses on improving broadband access, adoption, and use across the entire state,” said Connected Texas Executive Director Don Shirley. “One million, four-hundred thousand Texas adults say a lack of digital skills and knowledge of how to use a computer and broadband is the main reason they don’t have broadband at home. The ECO program supports the new national initiative by offering Texans a free way to learn life-changing digital skills through their local library and then be rewarded with discounted broadband services and a chance at a free computer.”
