Statement from Connected Nation Chairman and CEO Thomas W. Ferree on the Biden Administration's Efforts to Reduce Broadband Costs

Washington, DC. (May 9, 2022) – Thomas W. Ferree, Chairman & CEO of Connected Nation, released the following statement regarding the Biden Administration’s announcement today regarding their efforts to make broadband more affordable for millions of Americans:

“Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris announced commitments from the nation’s 20 leading service providers to make high-speed, high-quality internet plans available for no more than $30/month, impacting more than 80 percent of the country’s population. The Administration’s announcement means that 48 million Americans who qualify for the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)—and the $30/month benefit it provides—will be able to subscribe to broadband services for free. This represents a significant step forward in closing the Digital Divide by addressing what has been an insurmountable obstacle for many American families—namely, the lack of affordable service.  We applaud the Administration’s efforts, and we urge qualifying families to visit the new program website at GetInternet.gov to find participating internet providers in their area and sign up for the ACP.”
