Connecting Michigan Communities: Emergency Broadband Benefit Program

Bowling Green, KY (May 12, 2021) - Access to broadband (high-speed internet) is more important now than ever. That’s why Connected Nation Michigan (CN Michigan) is hosting a series of webinars called “Connecting Michigan Communities” to highlight critical broadband needs and technology-related topics.

The CN Michigan team held their eleventh webinar discussing the FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP) on Tuesday, May 11. During this webinar, Wes Kerr, Director of Community Solutions for Connected Nation discussed how the EBB Program works, who is eligible, and how to apply.

"The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program provides a temporary monthly discount on internet service for qualifying households,” said Kerr. “This program includes up to $50 a month discount on service and associated equipment rentals, up to $75 a month discount for households on tribal lands, and a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer.”

“May 12th is an important date because it is the first day applications are able to be received for the program," said Kerr. “All providers need FCC approval and need to file with USAC and ETC's do not need approval but all other providers must apply."
