Digital Works Now Offering Virtual Job Training for Military Spouses, Veterans Across Kentucky

Fort Campbell, Ky (April 1, 2020)- Digital Works (DW), in response to the coronavirus outbreak, is now offering virtual job training to military spouses and veterans across the state.The program, which was developed by Connected Nation to meet the growing need for online jobs, offers both technology training and job placement assistance for teleworking, remote positions.

Thanks to funding from the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet and Kentucky Veterans Program Trust Fund, Digital Works recently launched classes in the Fort Campbell area for military spouses and veterans.

Now, because of the health threat, these classes are being taught virtually for a limited time and the program is being expanded and offered to military families and veterans across Kentucky at no charge to participants.

“Our training program has been switched to 100 percent virtual content for the time being,” said Digital Works facilitator Jessica Golson. “This allows us to have more students per classroom, provide training while practicing good social distancing, and keep the students, staff, and their families as safe as possible.”

Digital Works has a network of more than 70 companies nationwide. Staff works with those employers to address what skillsets they’re looking for in new hires and applies that to the classroom setting. Since the Fort Campbell classes were launched in late February, 17 graduates (military spouses and veterans) have completed the course and 11 have landed new jobs. Nearly 1,000 (953) Digital Works trainees have graduated since the original program was launched in 2013.

In the virtual offering, over the course of two weeks,participants will have the opportunity to learn new online digital skills and be provided job placement assistance for online, remote positions.The virtual classes will include the same curriculum as the in-person classes, but students will now be learning in a virtual format.

“The virtual classroom more closely reflects what remote work is going to be like for our graduates,” said Golson. “We get to work through any kinks in their home systems together, help them adjust to taking calls or speaking with customers via their computers and phones, and provide hands-on experience with their own equipment to better prepare them for what is to come once they start working.”

The first set of virtual classes will begin April6 and end April 20. They will be held Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The second set of classes will begin April 13 and end April 24. This set of classes will be held in the afternoon from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
